David is a part-time CREATIVE with a full-time passion for visual storytelling.

An elementary school teacher by day, a professional cinematographer/photographer in his free time— he uses photo and video as an outlet to capture the world as he sees it. Completely self-taught, David’s passion began with a middle school technology class.

A native of Wilmette, Illinois, David’s hobby snowballed into a full blown obsession for the art as he and a group of friends started a production company in 2010. Even as amateur filmmakers, they produced a number of short films that ultimately won nominations and awards in the Chicagoland area. These humbling, self-starter beginnings instilled the importance of hard work and dedication to the craft at a young age.

To continue to refine his skills, the investment of his first DSLR began his commitment to learning both sides of his camera and launched his business, David J. Pollak Photography | Cinematography. Each of his projects serve as a learning experience and an opportunity for individual development. Here, you will find glimpses into what David is capable of. Welcome to the world from his lens.

how much do your services cost?

David’s favorite thing to tell his students and clients is “it’s important to be flexible.” He applies the same philosophy to pricing his projects. Knowing that each project is unique, he tailors the price to his clients’ needs, ensuring they only pay for what they want. Standard pricing does apply to common projects (Graduation, Engagement, Professional Headshots, etc.). Inquire for specific details.

I’m awkward on camera… can you help?

Cameras can make people nervous, but David creates a fun and laid-back environment so his clients enjoy their time in the spotlight. Be yourself— he will provide guidance if need be, but likes the experience to flow naturally. Every project is a collaboration, so he will always take time to show clients what their images look like during the shoot. Clients are always WAY more photogenic than they think, and nerves tend to go away quickly!
